Our Top Episodes Take You From Bon Jovi to Two Brothers on Opposite Sides of the Law
Behind the Scenes of Campside's Hit Shows The Brothers Ortiz, Catch Me If You Ken and Searching for Allen Rothbart
This week we are sharing the most popular Inside the Tent episodes of the past year. They exemplify the idea that Campside was born to tell stories: surprising, personal, original stories that can only originate from the beats — and the brains — of the world's best creators. Happy Summer!
The Brothers Ortiz: The Brothers Ortiz is the story of two brothers, both successful, but in very different ways. Gabe Ortiz becomes the third-highest ranking officer in all of Texas while his younger brother Larry climbs the ranks in Puro Tango Blast, a notorious Texas Prison gang.
Gabe doesn’t know all the details of his brother’s nefarious dealings, and he’s made a point not to ask, to protect their relationship.
But when Larry is murdered during a home invasion in a rented beach house, Gabe has no choice but to look into what happened that night. To solve Larry’s murder, Gabe, and the whole Ortiz family, must ask each other the toughest of questions.
Hear more from host Sean Flynn and Campside Executive Producer Matt Shaer.
Catch Me If You Ken: This story started with very little on the public record. But what appeared to be a small-time scam turned out to include fake companies, cryptocurrency, multiple countries and families torn apart.
Host Natalie Robehmed and Campside Senior Producer Abukar Adan discuss how boyish charm and the appearance of wealth can be leveraged to scam victims all over the world.
Natalie even notes her own similarities to the main character: they both hailed from countries associated with wealth, developed hard-to-place accents and made their way to the United States.
Searching for Allan Rothbart: When comedian Barry Rothbart was growing up in Queens in the 90s, there were two things he knew for sure: his father, Allan, was his best friend, and Allan was Jon Bon Jovi’s manager.
But everything changed in 1997, when Barry’s dad got arrested and admitted that he actually worked for the Italian mafia, running the largest bookmaking operation in the United States. High school Barry jumped in to work alongside him, making more money than most teenagers had ever seen. It all seemed like a perfect buddy comedy…. until it wasn’t.
Years after Allan’s death from cancer in 2007, Barry discovered cassette tapes that his dad had recorded on his deathbed. These tapes contained confessions that, again, shattered everything Barry thought he knew about his father.
Barry and Campside Co-founder Josh Dean discuss the shocking and cathartic experience of making a show about Barry's family, his father and himself.
